Sustainable Benefits

As an adaptive organisation, South Coast NRM Inc. has demonstrated for 11 years its ability to respond to a changing environment, delivering cost effective outputs for the benefi t of the local community and funding bodies.

More than 160 people and many hours of voluntary work have contributed to the development of our guiding documents, the South Coast Regiononal NRM Strategy and the associated Investment Plans.

This exhaustive process has involved extensive consultation and research.

The resulting documents meet stringent guidelines imposed by the State and Australian Governments including the provision of a community-based vision for natural resource management that returns economic, social and environmental benefits with realistic goals and targets to achieve that vision.

Partnerships

Community

The strong partnership with the regional NRM community, for instance,  subregional Groups, “Friends of...” groups, community groups, and catchment groups, is important to ensure successful implementation of the Strategy through the Investment Plan.

These organisations are contributing and being further engaged via the ‘Register of Interest’ process and are consulted and engaged as the Investment Plan is progressed.

An example of an established partnership for the delivery of a large scale action is the arrangement in place with the subregional NRM group, the Fitzgerald Biosphere Group, for the delivery of the Fitzgerald River Catchment Demonstration Initiative (CDI) Implementation Project.

Partnerships with other Regional NRM Groups are also important. Sharing a boundary with the South West, Avon and Rangelands NRM Regions, the South Coast Region has been involved in collaborative development of a number of cross regional project proposals.

Cross Regional Successes

Good examples of partnerships already in action are found in the delivery of the current cross regional and priority projects.

South Coast NRM Inc. is the proponent for cross regional projects currently funded through the regional Competitive Component, including

South Coast NRM Inc. also partner in the cross regional projects Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo led by the Northern Agricultural Catchment Council and Malleefowl conservation which has the Avon Catchment Council as lead region.
