Strategic Tree Farming
Increased adoption of commercial revegetation and tree cropping integrated into agricultural systems resulted in reduced salinity and wind erosion, improved water quality, and the enhancement and protection of biodiversity values.
The Strategic Tree Farming Project established 6,940ha of pine, eucalypt and sandalwood tree crops, building the resource for regional industries.
Casuarina obesa (Swamp sheoak) plantings were established in partnership with landholders on 300ha for saltland reclamation in the less than 600mm rainfall zone.
One hundred hectares of trials were established in partnership with landholders.
The Research and Development Strategy for Casuarina obesa was implemented.
Landholders assisted with the maintenance and monitoring of farm forestry demonstration and trials sites.
In-field farm forestry training and experience was provided for a team of environmental trainees.
Several farm forestry education and training programs were delivered: three courses for natural resources management officers and agri-business, and eight courses for land manager.
