About NRM

The sustainable management of Australia's natural resources (our land, water, marine and biological systems) is vital if we are to ensure our ongoing social, economic and environmental wellbeing.

In Australia, natural resource management (NRM) is supported through the integrated delivery of two Australia-wide initiatives: the National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality (NAP) and the Natural Heritage Trust (the Trust).

The planning and implementation of these NRM initiatives is based on regional needs.

Across Australia, 56 NRM regions have been identified. Each region has produced integrated regional NRM plans and investment strategies, which helped identify and coordinate actions that addressed issues specific to a particular region. Each region's funding from the NAP and the Trust is driven by these NRM strategies and investment plans.
