Regional Landcare Facilitators

Over the past 12 months the landcare program has been busy across the South Coast region.

The Landcare Facilitators have provided over 200 people with assistance with improving their management practices and also increased the number of farmers implementing actions to improve the environment both on and off farm.  These staff have also been instrumental in increasing the knowledge, skills and engagement of over 1000 people across the region.

There have been some great events over the course of the past year.  Some key highlights are:
  • Ladies field days in the West and Centre of the region, attracting over 100 participants
  • School engagement activities to push NRM closer to the curriculum, with activities in the Lake Warden catchment, Bremer Bay and Denmark areas
  • Supporting regional NRM and catchment groups and helping them deliver outcomes across the region
  • Strengthening networks and building new relationships to promote NRM and sustainable farm practice
  • Closer involvement and cooperation with South Coast reference groups to keep a finger on the pulse of emerging issues, and to provide solutions.

Next year will bring even bigger and better things for landcare in the South Coast region.  Some of the activities that will continue to be delivered include:
  • Esperance and Albany Shows, to engage urban and rural communities
  • Carbon Farming Initiative Training and roll out of the program to the community
  • Project officer training and networking sessions
  • Working with urban and peri urban community interest to develop new Landcare groups and move into new territory!
  • Assisting community groups and organisations by access to and assistance with funding applications
  • Developing improved links with Grower Groups and other partners in the agricultural sector
  • Project managing new contracts with CfoC partners to delivery on priority outcomes for the region
