About Us

South Coast NRM Board of Management South Coast NRM is the leading regional group for natural resource management on the South Coast of Western Australia.

As an independent not-for-profit organisation, we work with the community to improve the environment by preserving and protecting unique plants and animals, managing land and waterways and sharing knowledge and skills in natural resource management.

South Coast NRM coordinates and administers funding primarily from the Australian Government and the Government of Western Australia, allocated specifically for NRM activity.

With the help of community, government agencies, local government and industry, we have developed a framework for managing the future of our key natural resources.

South Coast NRM benefits from strong community, industry and government support for activities organised under five major themes; Land, Water, Biodiversity, Cultural Heritage, Coastal and Marine.

All NRM activity and funding in the South Coast Region is directed by Southern Prospects 2004-2009, our regional strategy for NRM.

As one of 56 groups from around Australia, we are committed to the sustainable long-term management of our natural environment to achieve positive social and economic outcomes.

Joining South Coast NRM in WA are five regional NRM groups: Rangelands NRM, Perth NRM, Wheatbelt NRM, Northern Agricultural Catchments Council, and the South West Catchments Council.

Since June 2003, the WA Government and the six regional NRM groups have been signatories to a Memorandum of Understanding that formalises their working relationship. The agreement also provides a framework for co-operation, mutual support and accountability for conservation and sustainable land use within WA.

Under the MOU, the regional NRM groups agree to develop regional strategies for NRM; consult with the broader community; develop investment plans which include prioritisation of activities; maintain community input into the implementation and evaluation of their strategies; provide advice at the state and regional level.

The chairs and CEOs of the regional NRM groups meet regularly to ensure a consistent approach across the state and to ensure community concerns and issues are voiced to the WA and Australian governments.
